How long is normal to be looking for a teaching position?
I am a certified teacher with an alternative certificate in the state of Oklahoma. I have been looking for my first position for over two years now. Starting to get a little discouraged. How long is normal to be looking for such a position? Any ideas on how to stand out from those who have a standard certificate?

Hi Sarah Hensley past educator here! I can say that the hiring process and wait time varies widely from state to state. In some it is quick and painless but in others, it becomes overly competitive and disappointing. For me that was the case. I am guessing you have been subbing? This experience can help you land a job especially a long term sub position. The key is to get into a district and then wait until an internal hire position pops up. This is how I landed my first third-grade teaching job. I am wishing you all the best, don't get discouraged! You can do this. Also, make sure to have a great portfolio ready to show off of student work, etc from student teaching during an interview. Employers love images so the more the better!
