Identifying orientation skills on job descriptions

What's the difference between people oriented and task oriented? Should I use one over the other on my resume?

Both skills are extremely important to have. It shows that you are a well rounded individual. In order to succeed I believe that you have to be able to manage and perform your required tasks (task oriented) but also be able to effectively communicate with individuals in your organization (thus being people oriented).

I will use people oriented because if you going to work in customer svc you need that skill all day. However you can put goals oriented , determine, hard working.

I'll use this example from a customer service perspective - (Customer wants to return shoes purchased at your store with no receipt and want’s cash back, Item price $25). **Task Orientated - would stick to policy and either NOT accept return without receipt or offer store credit ONLY. Depending on the company return policy).

**People Orientated - would explain the stores return policy for the customers future reference but ACCEPTS the return gives cash back to customer $25.

You will commonly see job descriptions emphasizing both qualities so it’s important to learn to balance the two.

Hi Dylan, Those are actually two different things. One would be more that you are great with people and like to be and work with them. Task oriented means you like to focus on your job. I think it is great to be both!!
