Where’s the line?

My coworkers make really crude jokes pretty frequently, and sometimes I’m the punchline. I don’t think I would call it sexual harassment quite yet, but I’m wondering: how do you draw that line? At what point do jokes become harassment?

Crude jokes before one who does not participate is harassment. If you have been the punch line, even once, its worse. I would talk to your HR department, if no results, find another job. That's all you can do. Often, managers will try and sweep it under the rug because they do not want to have to deal with the problem. If HR warns them, they will.

They cross lines and are harassment when someone present finds it offensive. Especially in public or work places.

If it is offending someone and it is on a continuous basis then your employer should approach it as harassment.

It becomes harassment when you voice your opinion that you are not comfortable with the jokes and you are the punch line and they DO NOT STOP. Just like sexual harrassment, look at the work handbook and the site policy. But before going that route, a quick come back to the punch line gets you in the "in" group, example, when I started working where I work, I got offended more times than not, at first, but then I fired back with comebacks, then the punch line became someone else's. However I did let them know that I'm cool with the jokes and all, just not my wife or my daughter. Worked out great. Try other tactics before going that route you are thinking. No one likes a tattle tale or a softy. I'm sure they are doing it because they get a reaction out of you. With that said, stand your ground. A person can only take so much before they implode, I mean, just look at the news. Good luck, keep your head on you shoulders, oh btw, comebacks doesn't work if you comeback 2 minutes later, usually has to be right after the laughter

If you are not comfortable asking them to stop, take it to your manager or HR. A crude joke with you as the brunt is harassment.
