Background check
Ok so I'm 17 and I'm trying to get a job. When I was 16 I got in some real bad trouble and I got charged with 7 state and 2 federal counts of commercial burglary but I haven't went to court for it yet.. When I go to fill out the application do I have to say yes on the "any felonies charges" part?

You have not been convicted so the answer is no. If hired yes there's a chance you may be let go. Make yourself indispensable to whomever you work for. Make it difficult for them to let you go should this situation come to light, which may happen when you have to go to court. This is not going to disappear but it is all in how you handle it. Be early, don't leave early, master your position & cross train if available, if you finish what your assigned offer to help others or inquire with your manager if anything else is needed to be done, take the extra hours when offered not just for the money but to show you're a team player. This is what I mean about indispensable. Live & learn from your mistakes. Live every day making amends & proving to yourself & those around you that is not the type of person you want to be. Expedite the process if possible so you can have a clean adult record. Juvenile records are usually sealed. Mistakes don't make who you are, continuing to make them will however. You seem to be wanting to make that change & I commend you for that. You are young enough to get on the right path & create a better life for yourself without the criminal aspect. Good luck & remember to live your life every day to the fullest so that when you look back & in the mirror you can respect where you've come from & the person you've become.

You should talk to an attorney.

The next time you fill out an application for a job try to tell as much information you can about your past. Tell the employers that you are trying to change your lifestyle,so you can make an honest living. Also tell them you are trying to do something positive in your community as well.

No you have been accused not convicted. Also get that expedited to a resolution before your eighteen and there will be no record.

Yes you are still a criminal. Your juvenile crimes will be over at the age of 18. Once you’re 18, you have a clean adult record.

be truthful employers end up finding out about why what landed a felony charge

Honesty is the best policy but sometimes the truth hurts. If YOU were the employer what would you do? Time to be honest with yourself. People do learn from their mistakes and time changes people but I really think your kidding yourself if you think the majority of the population will trust you. You need to establish in your heart that your willing to learn and change or the consequences will be there. Working for cash is still dishonest because your not reporting to the government your taxes and an employer who pays cash may not be trusted either! Best not to tell anyone a story who doesn't want to hear it or even care. SAY NO. your not convicted yet just do your best to get the charges lifted and if it comes back to haunt you deal with it. Take God with you.

Ask whoever will be representing you in court for advise on this. Also ask for how to best put the past behind you. Including how best to show that you've learned from your mistakes. Keeping your nose clean, showing respect for others, following instructions would be a start.

Technically juvenile records are sealed. If you have not been convicted you answer no. It is the truth. You can offer them details at interview.
You need to tell the truth if they ask you no matter what! Be a Man and Work hard from now on-BUT NO-NOT FOR CASH! Pay your Taxes and become a Good Citizen and Work hard to better your life. You have many wonderful years ahead to change. You can do it! God Bless you!
