Store Manager

It's all over for this old guy

I worked managing a Toys R Us store near my home for the last 9 years. I adored my job and the kind folks I worked with, but now it is over. I am older, scared and unsure what is coming next for me. I am hearing different things that we will be given severance packages and others that we won't. Everything is uncertain for Toys R Us employees right now and it's not fair. I need my health insurance for my medications and that will be gone soon too. Friends, what should I do now? Feeling so alone.

Take some time to look into another direction whenever possible aka a back up plan ... this way you will be ready for the change or maybe take it on before then, however you prefer to do it

Inventory Mamanagement Specialist at Toys R Us

I hear ya! I have been with the company for 24 years. My store was is among the 1st wave of stores to close. We get nothing! Management gets a piddly offering of some small percentage of what your store makes during liquidation. If it beats last years sales by 10% each week. Do the math. You get the equivalent of aproximatrly 1 paycheck. Good luck to you and everyone who is soon to be unemployed by Toys R Us.l

Know what you are going through. I spent the last 10 years with TRU. They did give me and my staff severance packages, we just had to sty on until the store was completely closed and broken down and packed up. There are plenty of other opportunities out there. I am 58 next month and had no problem landing another job. But I will always miss TRU, it was just a pleasure to go to work every day.

New opportunity around the corner! Grieve it but then let it go and never give up. When you need it, download the Good RX app. It's free and you get amazing prices for prescription drugs at nearby pharmacies. MediShare might be an option for your health concerns. Attend networking groups and look into Career Solutions. Check out David Rawles book "Finding a Job God's Way". Keep the faith and stay connected. Referrals are very important. Smile. God's got this!
