How can I re-negotiate my pay after I have accepted the job?

I took the job out of desperation but the pay isn't enough to ]help me meet all my responsibilities. I like the job and I don’t want to quit but I need to ask for more money.

Many companies have a job description they give you at hiring, some even have you sign it. If your existing job duties are significantly different and more extensive, it makes having a chat about wages easier. Also, if there was a 90 day probation period for example, generally after that 90 day review a pay increase is more customary.

However, your worth in the marketplace is not dependent on your personal financial obligations. I would do some due diligence on what the market rate is for your specific job before you determine whether a conversation asking for more wages is prudent.

Be up front and ask for more or just look for a better job . I did and now I am making twice what I was three years ago

You should never base your pay/worth on what you need to meet your personal responsibilities, especially in a negotiation. You have to lead with the value you are bringing to the company, as well as what others are making to do for the same work. Can you show that you are currently under valued compared to other in the market. Make a strong argument. If all else fails - happy hunting.

Without looking at any of the comments, here are my questions right out of the box.. 1. .How long have you been working there; are you due for an appraisal? 2. Were you hired through a ruthless recruiter with an open ended contract (should be illegal) that last indefinitely?
If you haven't been working there long enough for them to recognize your accomplishments and you are not up for an appraisal, I would say find another job. If you have done good work and they like your performance and you are due a review- then I would say...talk to your .manager. If you are not up for an increase or you were hired by a vampire...oops, I mean recruiter then I would say ...find another job... Best of luck! xoxox

Erica you may have to wait until your probationary period has ended. In my opinion you will have proven yourself, as to say that you will have exceeded your qualifications. Prior to your probationary period I am not sure if negotiations will be possible or proper.

Get a part time second job to help meet the responsibilities. Keep a record of all your accomplishments and honors through the year. When your review comes up, make sure you have all the documentation and hope that the company had a good year to give you a raise.

While you are working there, look for better paying jobs online until u can find something else.
