Overnight Job Opportunity

I have a f/t job offer for 3rd shift (11p-7p) but I'm hesitant cause I never worked a overnight shift before. How much of a life change should I expect?

Third shift can be a double edged sword. The higher ups are at home sleeping so you have less people to breathe down your neck, but you may be required to tackle more projects. It's very easy to lose track of what day of the week it is since you are working as the date is changing. Good luck

Make sure you getting a pay differential for 3rd shift. It should be a couple of dollars more than what day shifts pay.

Sleeping 8 hours straight might be hard. Have a plan of things to do after work so you can wind down and feel tired enough to sleep through the afternoon and evening. I’ve worked this schedule before so please make sure you think it through and talk about it with your family before accepting. Good Luck!

Do you have children or family living with you? If so, then know that this will be a tremendous challenge for them as well. You’ll be trying to sleep while everyone else is up so everyone in the house will have to be quieter which can be a little tough for children. Your body and mind will have to make an adjustment and that may take some time so expect to be tired the fist 90 days. The commute is a pro!

Hey Adrian, It's going to be quite a change. For one thing you will be getting your sleep while everyone is awake. I've had parents who worked night jobs and they definitely make it work. Sometimes you have to sleep for a few hours in the morning after your shift, and then a few hours before you go in. It just depends on what other things you have going on during the day. Good luck!!
