Happy Sunday Community!

Over the past few weeks I thought it would be a great time to focus on my company. Seeing a need for the services I provided to past customers what better timing? It started with me hiring people to fill the positions. I posted several job openings on sites to hire people. This was the beginning of the shock. During the first week of hiring for cleaners, labor, carpenters, plumbers, electrical and other positions, only two people applied. Shocked by the response I started calling the career centers to let them know I have several positions available. The first two people who applied set the path for what I would soon realize to come in the future. The first person seemed interested in the position and scheduled an appointment. She never showed up like the second person. Thinking this was just the beginning of the process and soon to find out it’s wasn’t? Phone call after phone call here is some of the responses. Do I have to clean the bathrooms? Can I have weekends off? Do you offer paid lunch breaks? Do you offer rides to the jobs? How soon do I get a raise? Only for them not to show up to the interview. #MyThoughts #hiring

I think people’s reaction is owed to fear, their questions are about security, frightened, they are worried about making ends meet, I am in SF, looking for work, though I have a contract job where I work for the City 2x a week, the other days are job search. In a hotel after shelter I wonder if this place will be fit enough that someone will want to hire me. I want to work full time and elevate my circumstances. Maybe some of your clients are in similar situations. Keep reaching out though and know I too want to work. Resume on Jobcase, Indeed and Careerbuilder. Recent job just added on AOL.

Did they ask these questions before or after you disclosed information relevant to hourly pay? What I've experienced throughout my previous job searches is that the interviewer spends a significant amount of time discussing and ultimately convincing you of the virtues of the position being offered without making any mention of the pay- rate. And by the time compensation is discussed, the decision to move forward and commit to subsequent meeting has already been made. So then it becomes a situation in which I've set a date to move forward, and am now being informed, after the fact, of the incredibly low hourly wages being offered. At that point things can get very awkward, as I clearly am NOT willing to move forward with such a low pay-rate. I just can't find the words to suddenly cancel and tell the interviewer how unfair I think the compensation is.
