Endless Job Hunt
So I have a situation, back in May of 2013 I moved back to NYC from Colorado. Due to the fact, I had to be a caregiver for my mother that is suffering from Alzheimer. Essentially it is a full-time 24/7 job. Six months ago she went into a nursing home, so it was time for me to re-enter the workforce. I have been in the restaurant industry for over 20 years, starting as a dishwasher when I was 15. I have held every position other than ownership, the last 15 years I was in management. My constant job hunt has been, to say the least, frustrating. I thought, given my experience and education within the industry, finding a job would be rather a cake walk, I was dead wrong. I am now beginning to think that my extended length of unemployment is the major driving factor. Despite my viable reason for not being able to work, it certainly seems that it is affecting my hunt. I know that NYC is very competitive in the restaurant industry. But, really come on, this is ridiculous. These are completely uncharted waters for me. Since 1995 all my jobs have been strictly word of mouth and/or reputation. I had a phone interview with a head hunter that lasted for nearly an hour. It went as far as checking references, now I am CERTAIN that I was given positive endorsements. But I get an email stating that they are going with someone whose background and experience best suits their needs. That I can totally respect, so I sent an email in response, thanking them for taking the time in speaking with me. I asked what was it about my background and experience that did not meet their expectations. Mind you, I have a great resume and have worked for some well known and respected establishments in NYC. All I received was obviously a generic template reply with no details addressing as to what I was asking. I know that I must keep on pushing forward, stay positive, and have FAITH that something will pan out. For everything happens for a reason. So does anyone have any advice, with regards to extended time of unemployment, being the root of my problem?
Just a quick question, at anytime can to take the time to go to the place of employment interest to see how the flow goes for all 3 meals, yes you do have capable experience some times it's the experience it maybe something that is "shouting out to them" that you don't realize. And have you called back to ask or inquire why you were not considered for the position or if another position may become available you would welcome another opportunity to interview. It may be, just think about it, do they ask you how much of a salary you are looking for or required. Now if they are offering insurance then the salary may be a factor. Just saying.
