Having hired, trained and help develop over 400 Financial Advisors, you are entering a very difficult profession, BUT not an impossible one. Since it's a commission based business, companies have less to risk from hiring you than you have to risk because unless you make some sales you'll not be able to afford to stay in the business. This is where your true grit will need to endure the continual rejection you'll get. If you're prepared to do all of this, then the company needs to provide you with some accounts to help you get started and I do not mean a few. I mean a few hundred. Because then when you phone them, you will be able to mention the name of the company prior to you mentioning your name, after all that name recognition should get you in the door so you can tell your story. Then it just becomes a numbers game. Also the majority of people learn best from seeing it done, therefore you need to have many, many interviews conducted where you are just observing the presentation and have some or all of this commission split with you. This will tell you internally that you can do what you're seeing being done. You should never leave a presentation without asking for referrals. Make it your expectation to get 3 or 4 referral at the end of every presentaiton. The rejection you receive cannot be taken personally and your most difficult rejection will be trying to get enough people to respond to your phone call, your email or voicemail. The reason I say this is that no one trust anyone, especially since 2008 and 2009. So you need the company that is interviewing you. to be interviewed by you, because your success will depend on your total commitment to do it (your work ethic) and their support. It's a team effort, what you bring to the position and what they're prepared to do to help you become successful. If you don't get this assurance in the interview, then you are wasting your time with that company, so move on to another company, because if you really want to do it then there will be some companies who will be prepared to help. Please let me know if this was helpful and please stay in touch. Thanks, Floyd Black

Hi, Yes, give a warm welcome, with a good firm handshake. Make eye contact from beginning to end. Sit up straight, square to the interviewer with hands folded across lap. Stay positive, and think, "I am likable" Don't be nervous, you are either getting the job, or not, all you can do is your best. When they ask you questions you are not prepared for, take 1 deep breath and do your best to at least be genuine. I wish you good luck.

If this is a technical interview, brush up on technical questions that maybe asked. Practice, Practice, Practice. Not so that the answer come out dry and stale, but that you have the know-how to perform well.

Hi Nicole,

I hope this catches you before your interview!! First, please keep in mind that the recruiter/manager really WANTS you to succeed! They've probably reviewed a ton of profiles and have seen something in yours that prompted them to call you in for an interview.

So... do your research on the company by reviewing their website, find out as much as you can about the position, and prepare yourself with a few questions about the role & company. Then, before you leave the house, eat something to give you energy for the day, take a deep breath, practice saying, "Hi, it's nice to meet you" and imagine yourself looking the person in the eye, giving a firm handshake and standing tall.... and then go to it!

You'll do great. Send a Thank You note (either email or hand-written is fine) and follow up. Lastly, let us know how it goes! Best of luck, Marijoy
