Hear it a lot too. I think employers either think you will expect more than they are willing to pay or that you will get bored and leave quickly.

Hi Melody I understand your frustration. Since when is it a crime to be great at your job.Try working in Portland Oregon where you get penalized for selling to much.

I just heard the same thing from a job where I thought I had the job in the bag.

Here's a suggestion. Tell them that you will work for them for a month at their rate of pay. After the month if they like you , both side can sit down and come to an agreement on a fair rate of pay. If they ways yes you get a job for a month, maybe more. If they say no..what have you lost? Good Luck

In your locale, is there a surplus of accountants?

In a lot of cases, they want someone cheap and less likely to speak up when someone does something wrong.
They probably want tnis person to do a bunch of things that arent accounting.

Older people are less likely to be "yes" people, expect a decent wage etc. Basically "Over qualified" is code for "We want to pay you slave wages, treat you like crap in various ways etc and are afraid you wont put up with it if we do."

I applied for a job at a company and the the interviewer said great for every answer. The next day I got an email that I was not selected. So I said Im not going to buy any of their products again. Two months later I am working at one of the subsidiary company, I am looking for the HR contact info to email the nice package I got there.

It’s frustrating getting older. I feel like that is what over qualified means anymore. Although your resume is impressive. Why did you leave your last job?
