Commercial Front Load Truck Driver

Discrimination at waste management in fairview nj

Hello all who are of minorities but mainly african american dont apply to waste management in fairview nj. I was told i was going to be a commerical front end loader which is what i was hired for but i never trained to do this job. What i started to see was white or spanish guys where hired for wat they were hired to do and they were hired after me they were under me in seniority. I asked the route manager when wil i be training for front end load he told me that someone with seniority was training and i had to wait well i found out that wasnt true at and i was still working as a helper on the back of the truck. I even dealt with racism from two white drivers. One of them ask me if i was gonna wear a scarf or headband like "aunt jemima" i reported to the route manager and he just nixed it off like it was nothing told me that he knew the guy for uear and their like family and he meant nothing by and that he is best friend with another african american that works there and then i had to deal with the other white driver which is brothers the with the guy who said the racist remark to me i had to hear this guy talk about how blacks and spanish people are all on welfare and need to get a job and that they were all animals,i ignored the ignorance. Then on another day me and this guy got into a big argument and he left me in The field and i had told management how he yelled and cursed at me and they did nothing about. Now just a couple of weeks ago after doing a double route i was called in the office and told they were letting me go very confused i asked what did i do they just said it wasnt working out and to call HR, i called HR for a week and when she finally called me she said the same thing that management said it wasnt working out then said that some people are just not a good fit for a job so i said well how would they know that if i didnt even get a chance to prove if i could do the job or not. But i reported to the WM integrity line and wrote a formal complaint and HR said that she gonna to investigate my allegations. I tell you i really thought i found a great job and thought i would retire from waste management but i guess that wasnt true. I just gonna see just how far they go with this.

Supervisor at State Of Florida

Well, I wouldn't buy shares in WM, either. Seems the company is having a little difficulty lately. I'll wait until it bottoms. It sounds Mr. Fish (Waste Management CEO) needs to get his house in order!

I am a African American women.I worked at WM for about 8 months in Commerce California as a customer service representative and was racially discriminated against. I was fired on the same day of my pay raise. I was on time everyday, I had no write ups or warnings, my performance was outstanding, l never missed any days and I received a lot recognition awards. In May l was promised a promotion transfer yo commercials ,instead someone else got the position. I felt sooo bad. WM management was so hostile and racist towards me. I tried to reach out to HR. and management but know response. My supervisor gave me an unlawful write up according to the the LABOR Board Ca. Section 200 because I had a subpoena to go to court to protect my life due to domestic violence. There were about 175 employees in my department. 180 Hispanics and about 20 African Americans. I was working mored than 40 hrs a week. How Horrible! I know how you feel Brother.

Sorry to hear that happened to you. Did you make any other reports about what happened? I feel like someone should be looking into this.
