Idk
Well I went for my final interview this morning, and sat down face to face and had a conversation about the salary... they had me believing that it was salary + commission but it is actually just commission and they don't pay but $200 to hold you over until you get your licence which you also pay for with no reimbursement... it's a good opportunity but I am a single mom with bills to pay and a kid to care for so I kinda need immediate income... what should I do?

Are you working now? Take your time and think things through. Definitely seek help for you and your family. Don't hesitate to apply for government benefits. Everything will be temporary and soon you will have a steady job that you are comfortable with. Have you tried applying for employment at Walmart. I did and still waiting for a response. I am experiencing a week's laps from the time of application submission to the response.

Hey you are in the perfect situation to take advantage of all the government programs offered. Once you are able to navigate the gov system you will be making more money by not working. You go girl!

If you don’t have anything better, take the job. However, don’t stop looking for the job you want. Some money is better than no money even if you’re on government aid, and will help you make into me until you find what you really want.

Well commission, is not my choice, but some people prefer it over salary. Laticia, if you went into this last interview and now it a money issue. maybe time to walk away. you need 200 dollars for the license, Next do you get a company car? that is a expense, and are you using yours to work and make a commission. all these factors are important if your only commission. what other factors are in play? its a opportunity but could be worse if putting up all the money, and no steady income to offset the expenses. you may want to look further in the job market.

Laticia - This is a common practice for financial planning and insurance businesses. I've always been a bit leery of these types of jobs and wouldn't recommend it given your situation. My suggestion is to politely pass on the opportunity and pursue a job that will address your immediate needs. - KD

To my mind "no salary" and "good opportunity" don't match. Is it legitimate? Ask what the normal delay is between a given sale and receiving your commission. Are you considered an employee (they withhold payroll tax) or an independent contractor (you withhold your own tax)? Treating you this poorly and deceptively at the start is a major red flag.

Go to a temp agency and do what ever work is available. Even if it is not what you have trained experience in, it will be a paycheck and an opportunity. Get your foot in the door by doing whatever and show them your a good worker by them seeing your work. Visually showing how your work and the way you work is way better than describing it on a resume.

You have to be pretty damn good at sales to make any money on commission, alone. If you are not pushy, and a good actress, you won't make it in sales. I tried selling Rainbow vacuum cleaners, back when I was a teenager. I worked for just commission, alone. I got at least 2 to 3 sales a week. But many of our salespeople went weeks without getting any sales at all. I knew how to speak up and make my product look good. I knew how to make their vacuum cleaner look like a piece of crap and their house look dirty. I had them both wanting and needing my product by the time I was done showing it.

Unless you have a good emergency fund to live off of, walk away. You have to ask yourself. If they were not totally up front about the salary structure, what else may be in question. What is their employee turn over rate? Is it a revolving door? What is the average time an employee is with the company. Does every one seem new, if so think long and hard, a single mom can not afford to be used for three months unless you have a safety net.
FINANCIAL GURUS OR BUSINESS PUNDITS ALWAYS SAY "TO PUT AWAY 3 MONTHS OF YOUR SALARY TO GUARANTEE THAT YOU CAN SURVIVE DURING AN EMERGENCIES"! I ALWAYS HAVE 6 MONTHS SALARY SAVED JUST IN CASE SOMETHING COME UP. BUT I ALWAYS SAY THAT "CAN I LIVE OR CAN AFFORD TO TAKE A JOB WITH JUST COMMISSION UNTIL I CAN MAKE A DECENT SALARY GET HIRED WITH GUARANTEE MONEY COMING"? AND THE ANSWER IS USUALLY NO! BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO DIP INTO THAT 6 MONTHS SAVINGS OR CHECKING. THE BOTTOM LINE IS IF YOU THINK THAT YOU CAN SURVIVE WITH JUST COMMISSION AND YOUR BABY AND YOUR BILLS TAKEN CARE? THEN DO IT! BUT IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS OR IF YOU ARE ALWAYS THINKING ABOUT YOUR BABY AND YOUR BILLS. THEN NO! IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT DOING THAT WAY? THEN YES! BUT IF YOU CAN'T? THEN NO! I'M SURE THAT THE EXPERIENCE WOULD BE VALUABLE AND MAY TEACH YOU SOME VALUABLE/USABLE SKILLS IN THE LONG RUN BUT YOU CAN ALWAYS FIND SOMETHING TO SUSTAIN YOU AND YOUR CHILD. BUT THERE'S NOTHING LIKE RECEIVING A GUARANTEED CHECK EVERY PAYDAY. BUT THIS DECISION IS UP TO YOU TO DECIDE. GOOD LUCK! AND I HOPE THAT EVERYTHING GOES WELL FOR YOU!
