Get involved with The Arkansas Special Olympics and end up winning just like the courageous athletes
My initial involvement with this great charity began as a bet with a co worker. The bet was who could raise the most money in 30 days to help support Area 3 representing the NWA athletes (I won just in case you are keeping score). Unfortunately, I was unable to participate in the qualifying event due to work obligations. I followed as much action and information available on the website as I could. I know I got more out. of the competitors performance and stories than they did from the money I raised. The next fundraising I did was the Polar Bear Plunge. This consisted of myself and approximately 50 other people soliciting donations for the "privilege" to jump into BeaverLake in February. This fundraiser has become a tradition. The best part of it all is to see the athletes out having a ball competing against other athletes. Winning is not necessarily the goal, but having fun at events they have trained for and love is. The athletes shine and I am grateful that I made that bet with my co worker years ago. I will continue to support this organization, so those athletes can forget about their disability and display the courage through competition.
