What does it mean when a job is advertised as a "union position"?

This is a pretty big company I'm looking at, and one of the jobs I'm interested in is listed as "this is a union position". What does this mean?

Sounds like you need to be a union member to take the position. There are many unions out there and different locals that pertain to the specific job at hand. You will need to have an up to date union card.

Hi Jerry, some examples of union jobs are Bricklayers, registered nurses, librarians, actors and truck drivers. Anyone who says he/she has a union job isn't referring to their occupation. Their saying that their co-workers have a collective bargaining agreement, or a labor union contract, that spells out the terms and conditions of their employment. A union job also refers to the worker's union membership and support for organized labor. Hope this helps!
