Devastated
I applied for a position that was a perfect fit for me as a virtual admin assistant in San Francisco. I got a follow-up interview, which would be handled via video conference with the CEO of the company. I did my homework, found out all about the business and when it started and what they did, and then on the day of the interview I went to my desk to prepare my webcam and at exactly 9:30 a.m. I was online waiting for them to join, mind you I'm using an app that I have never in my life utilized, but I made sure that I at least knew how to connect to my conference the day before. I waited online for over 15 minutes before I sent an email wondering if we were still on for interview with an invitation attached just in case. Minutes later, received an response stating "your appointment was at 9:30 a.m. cheers." I responded that I was aware of that and was waiting for them, but nobody responded back I started to panic because I had been waiting for them all that time and I was on time! He wouldn't even give me the time of day to explain what happened. And it took me about an hour to figure it out myself. I begged for a second chance, but knew that I blew my chance of a good first impression. Turns out that I somehow managed to log into a personal conference area and was not in the proper meeting ID at all after comparing them. I am absolutely devastated at working so hard to prepare for this interview and being turned away over one silly mistake that I can't take back.

Thank you all for your support. I was so distraught that day, that I needed to vent. I really appreciate the responses and empathy from all of I you. God bless":)

Hi Remote Worker, Just Shake it Off! It’s a very good learning experience and you are better prepared for your next interview. I’m sure you will get a job. And it’s ok to make mistakes as long as you learn from them. I know, It took me a long time to realize what that means. Let me know when you get a new position and don’t beat yourself up, more than two minutes. Then adjust and keep going. Smile ! Larry

Sorry that happened. Admin assistance get blamed for so much. They would have been difficult to work with.

They should be ashamed of themselves, but are probably not. It might be a good thing you didn't get hired, if they do potential workers like that for an interview, just think what would've they done if you had been hired.

Interviews should be done in person period. Phone and video interview is very unprofessional. You should ve glad you are not working for them.

That's really rough, but it has happened to me for similar positions recently and they are unforgiving about mistakes in their administration basically because they think if you'll make that kind of mistake before you're hired, that you'll make it often after you're hired. For the remote or virtual assistants, they basically expect close to perfection. With this experience now, you'll at least know slightly better for the future and just be confident in your skills. The world is yours and you have to take what's yours

I experienced something very similar. It was a video chat but then no one would face to face chat with me. I was very excited because it was a remote work from job home and I was definitely overqualified for the position so the pay and everything did not seem weird. They said they were going to email me a check which I know a lot of people do nowadays even my sister, you take a picture of check and put it in the account. I said I cannot do anything until it's count clears because they wanted me to send money to the vendor to send them a home supplies like a laser printer, software, desk, etc. They left me $1,050. I even called SunTrust the next day to verify that the funds had cleared the other bank because it was on a bank that's electronic and they can tell that. SunTrust was not listening to me and just kept saying the funds were good I kept saying we'll have they cleared the other bank and they kept saying yes and yes and I have this phone conversation recorded. So I agreed to wire the money am I things were supposed to be delivered at 10:30 the next morning. Of course the next morning I get a Skype message from this dude that says there's going to be a short delay you didn't send the right amount and he also said he does is all the time so he should have known better, that I needed to send more money I asked him how much and he said $2,100. That came me to a screaming halt the name of this company is called Sequoia medical. I verified the Wells Fargo check that he wrote me and the other one that I wouldn't deposit that was from New Orleans at another bank, and they could not be verified and then we're no such branches that were printed on the check. Of course I did not wire the money the second time. But I did verify the checks that did not such a exist and then I wrote him back and told him I'm going to blast him on my every single job site that I'm on, Facebook, and many other where I can get the news out there because I have a friend at Fox 5 news. The other thing is the money that he wanted deposited into the other account was a zelle account. Is zelle account is directly linked the account holder's name so it's not like venmo when you can make up a username. So I was sure to tell him that we have the actual name of the person involved in the scam and I've called the bank fraud department and they will be investigating. I said if you just refund me the money I'll go my own merry way. But of course I'm not going to do that. I must warn other people. he then writes me back and begs me not to do that and promises he'll send a refund. I thought he would just drop off the planet. The ones I said hey are you had us wire the money to has a direct zelle account linked to SunTrust, Bank of America, or chase. I just want everyone to know about this because I have tried to be scanned several times like when I sold car, and I've never been scammed in my life because I'm too smart. this scan was so elaborate that have made up their own professional website that looks amazing. It pulls up on the internet with good reviews. And when you pull it up check it against scams. Nothing shows up. So please do not fall for Saquana medical.

I can fully understand how this sort of faux paux could cost your ALOT more than expected.
It was an honest mistake. Period.
What's even more tragic is even after your tried to make this recruiter aware of this Miscalculation? He acted like you were even worth the time or the effort to interview with?
That is arrogance. Perhaps one day this "Recriter" will find himself in a similar situation? Hoping that someone would just be a little more sensitive & give him a second chance? You never want to wish this sort of desperation on another but, he could have taken a couple of seconds & made an interview possible?
This was a honest mistake. Him choosing to behave so shallow wasn't.
Just makes you wonder?
Perhaps a higher power was stepping in & preventing the interview all together? Somebody was trying to save you from a world of heartache.
For this recruiter to act like this never happens is tragically sad.
He could have easily given you an alternative time to interview, understanding how motivated you were to interview with them in the first place?
I wouldn't want to work with someone whose entire day revolves around making others feel inadequate.
You dodged a bullet. Count your blessings & find an employer who will work hard to keep you happily employed! Good Luck!

Sounds like their loss They should give you another chance. Maybe you should reach out to them. Best wishes
So, their loss some other company well I appreciate you know your worth and move on
