I don’t understand..

Anyone ever experience favoritism during an interview? I went to a warehouse preloader interview yesterday where I thought I would be the only person interviewing at that time but surprisingly found another 5 applicants in the waiting room when I arrived. I noticed that I was the 2nd person on the interview sheet posted outside the manager's office so I just sat down and waited. I was sitting close enough to the office that I could hear the first applicant’s entire interview. The manager sounded like she was in a good mood, real chatty, and informative. She must have asked half a dozen questions which the first applicant was able to answer then she offered him a job on the spot. I thought, no problem, I’m walking out of here with a job today. Her attitude, tone, and excitement completely changed when I walked in. She barely asked me 3 questions before she said someone would contact me in a week or two. I couldn’t believe it, what happened? I have experience, references, and obviously they have an interest in me if they called for an interview so why was I treated differently?

I know what you mean except I don't get interviews. I have 7 years warehouse supervisor experience and 13 years doing inventory control. I got a reject yesterday going with somebody that more fits what they want. I am tired of looking going to go live on the streets this fall.

Lance, sometimes there are clear messages in the universe that dissuade you from something or prevent you from taking a job. Those could be looked at with a lens of being unfair or favoritism. But another lens would be "This is not meant to be for me" Just move on! Be grateful of a clear message.

I have heard of this on numerous occasions Lance with the last being just yesterday. However this time it was about a rental home in which I had an appointment for. As I drove up I noticed that there were two vehiclesI in the driveway. As I waited in the car I I thought maybe they're showing the home to all who had inquired at the same time. After giving a few minutes with seconds and third thoughts I figured I go on and walk around in the yard . (Maybe I would get noticed) I waited several minsutes and the homeowner never approached me to welcome me to view the home. So I stepped back and again I waited. At this point my son and I can hear the entire conversation of the couple and homeowner who both had what looked like rental applications in hand. Near the end of the conversation I we hear ,"well we definitely are interested in renting. Well get the application back to you tomorrow.
After they proceeded to walk away we got excited and I thought ok "our turn". Well the owner looks at me almost like I was in the wrong neighborhood or lost. I introduced myself and my son to him and told him I spoke with him and about the home . He looks and says well I just rented the home. This is just exactly how this happened. I said oh ok thank you . This guy never said another word . Hit hit the alarm and got in his vehicle and left. Tell me about favoritism!!!! #rude

Lance, if Lloyd doesn't mind I would like to borrow his phrase. Holy cow! I like to refer to this type of bulk interviewing as a "cattle call". In this litigious age OTS hiring is nearly unheard of. Companies do background checks and drug testing to reduce their potential liability and a job offer is usually contingent upon passing before the actual offer is presented. I can't tell you what was going on in that hiring manager's mind but Yikes! You get to think long and hard if you are presented with an offer if this person is to be your direct supervisor (obviously not fair minded). Personally I would keep looking. Good luck and I wish you well.

Holy Cow!! Never heard of that happening before. What kind of cologne were you wearing? Not a joke.. interviewing is a totally objective process. You never know what's going to influence the interview in or out of your favor. Don't take it personal. Keep the search going!
