Why do I get Accounting Clerk positions when I am an Accounting Manager?
My last accounting clerk position was in 1994. I have a bachelors in Accountancy and on my resume my oldest job was an Accountant II. I keep getting emails that say since you were an Accountant II (mind you this was 16 years ago), the emails recommend all these Accounting Clerk and Accounting Specialist positions. I would like another Accounting Manager or Assistant Controller position. I was an Accounting Manager until my company was purchase by a much larger company. I could not find a position in Arizona so I moved to Texas and immediately went to work for Accountemps. Unfortunately, temporary work is not paying enough for all my bills. I need permanent position. I would even be willing to go back a step in a large company and take a Senior Accountant position. Is there anyway to tweak my resume so I quit getting these Accounting Clerk positions.

I have the same problem. I'm in IT and I get calls for software jobs on tools I've not used in over a decade. It's the software recruiters use to data mine your resume. If it gets into one database incorrectly, it can be passed around to multiple recruiters that way. I started responding back to the recruiter in question asking that they update their database. It took several weeks of doing this and it's mostly gone away.

You are starting all over remember crawl before you walk. You will land on our feet again. This is your season be patience. It's in GOD'S time not yours.

Put your management experience first on your resume. For current, list temp assignments until the best opportunity presents.

Because like any other search recruiters, they typically go off key words and your resume. I assume has key words tailored to the accounting clerk resume search fields.
Try tailoring your words in the resume to the field you are looking for, more than what you have done

Edrie I have often wondered the same thing. I have a master's degree in accounting, , with 20 years experience. The position for Accounting Clerk, has the word "accounting' in it. What I find harder to understand are all the positions for "account manager', which has very little to do with accounting, the common factor being the word 'account.' My best guess is the search engines find the commonalities without factoring in what each position actually entails.

Oh, and I almost forgot, you will need to be in that position for a year or 2. Trust me, I am learning the hard truth myself. And I too use Account Temps in the north Texas area.

You don't have CURRENT work experience. I had manager experience back in 2005 to 2010. But I could not get a Managers position because no one understands medical. I have an Associates in Business Management and Accounting. And a bachelor's in Accounting/Finance. BUT I have not worked for the big 3,5,7,9 or 12 accounting firms. And I do not have more 2 or more years working in Accounting. Most of my experience is in Finance. So, there you go, no current, no big accounting firm, or staff accounting experience.
Your best best is to swallow your pride and do the accounting clerk positions with large companies, or find a mom and pop shop that will hire you as a Manager.

I get since you worked at (blank) company you might be interested in working for: UBER. I have never worked in the transportation business. I too wish we could get only positions on our field or what we select as what we are interested in.

I'm an accounts receivable specialist for over 15 years and I still struggle to get into an entry level management role. So I can relate to your frustration in finding that manager position. You may want to refine your search for a controller position or a financial analyst position. Good luck to you!
Me too, and don't know why. I also get payroll clerk jobs too
