Handshake etiquette
Handshake etiquette, what is the proper way to shake a ladies hand today? I'm asking because I was taught when shaking the ladies hand you shake her four fingers, you do not grasp her hand like a mans handshake. Is this too old school and outdated? When I shake a females hand anymore sometimes I get really weird vibes like I've confused or upset them. I need advice. thanks
Hi George - This day in age, handshakes should be the same regardless of gender. The only thing you need to keep in mind is how much pressure you apply. Guys in general tend to be more muscular, so it can be easier for us to apply too much pressure if we're not thinking about it. Just make sure its firm, and try to match the pressure of the hand you're shaking, and you will do fine.
I was brought up the same way, just the 4fingers. Although I've been introduced to women who will lead by grabbing my hand to shake. Just remember not to squeeze to hard, unless they introduced the manly squeeze first. And yes time's have changed.
