My job changed during the pandemic...
I was let go at Thales . The company has great benifits and good pay. However, one major flaw it’s an at will company so they don’t need an excuse to terminate your employment. Because of losing a major contract they selected those who were more mature / higher pay and age for a younger group. The Chicago management leaves a lot to be desired . Due to the lack of leadership skills of the supervisor many violations of security, ethics, and workman’s compensation are compromised. They have a lead who practices unauthorized video taping and employees who are guilty of time theft violations .

Sounds like possible discrimination

Iam looking job anybody can help

I will pray for you and Theresa to find jobs.

Wow! This is the norm now. I was sent home in March, due to Covid, to work from home: budget analyst for a division in the steel industry. My job was “eliminated” and was given to a senior employee in addition to her job and another division. One person taking on 3 positions. Thrust into janitorial or just out of a job. Major pay decrease, not to mention the strenuous nature of the work. I am currently out on short disability because my pre-existing conditions don’t agree with being a janitor. I am over 60 y.o. Who will hire me until retirement age?

I was also let go because of the pandemic. I have been unemployed since May 2020. I apply to jobs Monday thru Friday and send AT LEAST 3-5 applications a day. I am 60 and it is so very difficult to find a job. What are we supposed to do? I have major anxiety over this.

I too, was made redundant at the end of August. I was there for 9 years and then poof, the rug was yanked out from under me. The person doing my job functions (my actual title/position was "eliminated") is half my age and is being paid less than I was. The company was so worried I might sue them, they gave me a severance and paid me out for month of vacation. The severance agreement was full of verbiage about Older Worker Protection Act and age discrimination disavowals but let's just call it what it is.
I too lost my job during this pandemic, but I have learned that I don't have to work for a company with no morals or ethics, as I would be very unhappy, so I am being selective to make sure I feel the company culture is a right fit. Until then, I have taken a low paying part time job that keeps me busy and learning new skills.
