Two questions:. A. Has anyone worked at DoubleTree Hilton Hotel and is it any good? What about housekeeping, I really am not interested in cleaning again, I cleaned the restaurant my husband works at for 10 years, was a part time job only about 15 hours a week which was good at first since I was sah wife/mother and he was breadwinner and could spend time with kids and taking care of home, he worked nights so he was home in mornings I worked. Me and husband been going through divorce past 4 years, no money for lawyer, saw job online for Hilton, may be full time. I'm 50 years old with no degree so options are limited, don't know about going back to school what to do and probably can't get financial aid since still married. Has anyone worked here? Benefits? Full time hours, money??? Wonder if they will hire me at my age, I cleaned restaurant so I had to sweep and mop lots of floors and bathrooms, sometimes walls and ceiling fans; was thinking hotel rooms may be easier as far as jobs go but obviously lots of rooms and more hours if full time instead of just 3 hours a day. Didn't have any benefits at restaurant. I've gained some weight past few years so I thought cleaning would also help me lose some weight but will my AGE and weight be a hindrance to getting hired?
B. Also, had interview for Baker position I saw online and young woman who interviewed me was looking at my job experience, she pointed out one job, I said "That was years ago" and she looked at the date and said "Wow, I wasn't even born yet.', was that wrong of her to say or was thaty fault for saying it was years ago? I laughed but felt old. Also, they didn't have a night Baker position at that site as listed online and day job not available. Alot of these low paying jobs don't seem to give full time even if your a good dependable worker and no benefits at all or only full time help and they won't give full time.
Hi April, FYI, you can find answers to your DoubleTree hotel employee perks and benefit questions on the Hilton Career page. The job details and rate of pay can be found on all of the job description for the open housekeeping jobs in you area but I would honestly advise you not to go for a cleaning job if that not what you want to do. I don't think it worth your time to get involved in a job you know you're not going to be happy in. Try to spend more time researching jobs you want.
In regards to your second question. The interviewer reacted without thinking but I don't think there's really anything illegal about her comment. Try not to feel old, marginalized, or disconnected over your age. There will always be people who come after us, just as there were people that came before us. Celebrate your life and the things you have been able to accomplish within your years.
You clearly have your personal requirements for the type of job you want. Full-time, benefits, and competitive pay are excellent employment "must have's" for the jobs you're willing to accept. Focus your time on finding for only those jobs. Try not to compromise or sell yourself short of these to in order to avoid having to face another job searching season down the road. Let me know how I can help. Good Luck!
