Tired of being stepped on.

Since I have left the Army I have moved from job to job. Not because I don't know what I am doing, but because I keep getting stepped on. Every single job. This current one, I was supposed to start school today but they didn't decide to do paperwork until last Thursday. Come to find out they don't accept Homeschooled Students. Also, I have picked up several shifts from other FDA's, never called in, was late once,by 5 minutes, and have gone above and beyond to prove my worth. When I first started I said I can only work Mon-fri days, no nights, but if they need a closer twice a week or something, I'll do it. Well since then they have changed me to all nights and weekends. They work around everybody else's availability, and give me what's leftover. And they cut my hours. How is this fair to me? I'm one of the hardest workers here and I get the short end of the stick. So once again I am out looking for a job hoping I will find someone that will actually care about me. Too many jobs have not, and I'm exhausted from trying.

Christy:

Transitioning to civilian life after serving in the military can be a challenge. It's not a structured, it's definitely a lot less respectful, and it can be difficult to challenge superiors when in the military that is a sure fire way to get an Article 15.

Civilian life is a lot different. You can stand up for yourself without being yelled at, or made to do pushups, or made to stand at attention while you get berated. You can stand up for yourself and you should do it.

If you were promised a certain shift, get it in writing or it didn't happen. Make sure your job offer outlines you salary, your hours, and any benefits you were promised.

What type of work have you been doing since ETS?

Hi Christy. I'm so sorry to hear about your experiences after leaving the Army. It can be tough for Army vets to readjust to civilian life, especially on the job front. That is why great organizations like Recruit Military exist. Recruit Military helps veterans secure employment through the many job fairs and resources they tailor specifically to veterans. I would encourage you to check out their site to learn some valuable info, check out their job listings, and see if there are any job fairs going on in your area soon. I hope this info helps you secure employment at a company that values your talents and rewards your hard work. Best of luck!
