Finally!
I finally received a rejection letter for sales and service retail job I applied for last month. Not exactly the response I was hoping for but nevertheless a response! I think I might have messed up on the assessment but I have no way of knowing since the test didn't give me a pass or fail grade. The letter just said they decided to go in another direction. How can I find out if that's the reason I didn't get the job?

That's all I've been getting is rejection letters / notifications. SO FRUSTRATING!!

That letter was probably computer generated. Many times, there are hundreds if not a thousand applications. Who knows what catches that particular hiring manager's eyes. Keep moving forward. It will happen for you.

Arnold, So glad you got a response! It might be hard to get the specific reason you did not get the job since they sent you (and everyone else) a typical general letter. You might try calling the person on the letter (or HR) and very politely and earnestly ask if you can have your test score and find out where you went wrong. Tell them you want to know where you fall short so you can improve in that direction on your next application or next job. I don't know if they will take the time to tell you, but if you approach it the right way, it is worth a try. I think everyone has the right to know where they failed. They may not want to say for reasons that protect themselves. There may have been many applicants and they had to choose one who stood out. It may not have to do with anything you did wrong. Give them a call. Best of luck. You sound very conscientious!

Sorry to hear you didn't get the job. It's totally up to you if you really want to know why. I would just continue looking & the right one will come along just means that wasn't the one for you. Good Luck ! :)

I ready the title to this post and thought you were announcing that you found a new job. But I can see how any response from a job is worth celebrating.

Since you did not interview and simply completed the application/resume and the assessment online, there is no definitive way of knowing why it was decided "to go in another direction". I am willing to bet a massive amount of those responses were sent to others just as yourself, and had zero to do with your assessment responses. It could be the assessments and/or applications are rated internally with submissions completed within specific time frames, or assessment scores based on an internal metric, etc considered for further review. Or it could be due to an overwhelming response, they only considered the first x amount of applicants who applied. The sad truth is with the dawn of the less personable online submission for employment, we have very limited person to person contact( usually reserved for interviews), so their is no real way in knowing the logic used. In any event, Do not beat yourself up over it. As previously suggested you may try your hand at reapplying but I do not think you will have much success at your reattempt. When applying for employment opportunities online most sites require an account or username to be created, which requires personal information such as your social security number, name, etc. You will notice when attempting to reapply it will recognize your previously submitted information and not allow you another attempt or submission. Good Luck!

I agree, Just re-apply and see what happens.

you can try messaging or calling back for feedback but I personally have never had any luck trying to get that info after an interview.
Try contacting HR and in a friendly and professional way, ask and see why you weren't selected, maybe mention if they think you don't have enough experience ..
