No experience- stay at home mom

I've been a stay at home mom for 20 years. I'm interested in anything commission based, like car sales, because the only hourly jobs that are entry level are not enough of an income, starting over on my own. That means I need a resumé, and I don't have anything to make one with since I have not had a career. I guess this is a bit like a kid starting out with no background, except I'm 45. Any ideas?

Just a couple of more suggestions. Check with the sheriff's' departments in your vicinity and see what it takes to become a bailiff in the court systems in the surrounding counties. After raising ten kids, I'd think shuffling prisoners to and from the court rooms would be child's play!

If you're still thinking sales, here are a few more places to look into.

O'Reilly Auto Parts

NAPA

Autozone

Advance Auto Parts

Sprint

T-Mobile

Verizon

AT&T

Car sales, selling insurance, working in a furniture store for someone like Ashley or Rooms To Go; they can all pay well, but your paycheck can be good one week and horrible the next. Sometimes it's feast or famine. That's the nature of commission sales.

Watch out for scams. Anyone who offers to give a check for a couple of thousand dollars up front so you can set up a home based business is a scammer.

One thing you might want to look into is becoming a shipping broker. I went through a shipping broker recently to have a truck shipped from Texas to Florida. There is a licensing process that you have to go through to satisfy DOT requirements. I'll try to find more information on that later. You could also look into becoming licensed as a freight broker. Same principle as an auto shipping broker, but they work with all kinds of freight. Might look to see if there are any in the Knoxville area. Sometimes they're called freight forwarders. You might find one who will hire you and let you work under his license until you get yours.

"3 years customer service experience, and excellent communication skills".... .

When an employer ask you if you have any kids and than is the time to bring them up, simple yes or no question. Don't be personal when talking to a potential employer. You have to sell yourself and be honest to0, for example your words that you choose to use when in an interview, words that are you! Keep your words professional and also do research on the employer that you are interested in, it prepares you for an interview, it gives you guys something to talk about.

, or a job that pays hourly and commission. Consider yourself lucky not to have any experience to include on an application! It sounds like you are based on you and what you are qualified for. I think that car dealerships at least require a High School Degree. When you do get a job, and make sure that you take advantage of each job opportunity! they are worth it! when you need a good reference! Good luck with your job search. Most importantly; Enjoy getting dressed up for walk ins to check up on your submitted applications(apps) rather if you submitted some online as well, as to enjoy getting dressed up for your interviews.

While you may not have actual work experience, as a stay-at-home Mom myself for several years, I can tell you that you 20 years of practical experience. Scheduling, budgeting, conflict management ... the is list is endless. I do not know what your computer skills are, but make sure you get updated on Word and Excel, you should be able to get some free training at the local unemployment office, and maybe family services. They will also help you write a resume (it should be in a functional format, listing your skills first). Make sure to list any volunteer work, PTA and other groups you belong to.

Starting over is never easy, good luck, and remember to have faith in yourself.

First thing you do have experience, you just need to turn it into business speak. You have great time management skills. Leadership and self motivational skills. Organizational skills. The educational background and so on....treat your experiences in the home as it was an office. Fir moms the house is your office.

First...WOW! Anyone who knows anything knows that stay home parents bring A LOT to the workforce. Your time management skills, organizational skills and passion for a change of scenery will make you appealing to employers. There are many companies who are looking for people who are re-entering the workforce. When it comes to your resume I have seen some that highlight "domestic" responsibilities. Here are a few websites that can help you:

I hope this helps!! Best of luck!
