My tips for getting customers to open up
I’ve worked at Macy’s for over a year now and I’ve learned a few things… always approach them with a smile, and never when they have anything but a piece of merchandise in their hands. If they’re on the phone, or looking at a tablet,or something else, leave them alone til they are looking at a shirt or something. Then, ask a ton of questions and smile and nod to all their answers. If you’re checking them out, mention the credit card to save them 20-25% but don’t push it. I always remark that it’s a good deal since I shop here all the time, but if someone doesn’t then maybe not great. People appreciate the honesty and I usually sign up about 4 people a day. Hope it helps and good luck to all new employees!

Thank you so much for this terrific insight Hayley Brown !
WOW, this is Awesome Hayley Brown ! Macy’s is one of those companies with actual brick and mortar stores that focus on Customer Service standards and customs that date back to a time where online (impersonal) shopping was not an option.
Employee are required to know the merchandise and skilled to manage customer shopping needs. The company is progressive in every way!
Macy’s is also getting ahead of the retail employment rush by starting their back to school and fall season recruiting campaign early this summer. Several locations throughout the US are hosting hiring opportunities on July 27.
No official hiring day announcement has been made but a simple city/state or zip code job query on the Macy’s career page brings up local Hiring Events for In-store Sales & Service as well as warehouse or Service support job opportunities.
Job seekers should include Macy’s as another employer alternative. Thanks for sharing your Customer Service techniques with the community Hayley Brown . Much Appreciated!
