Seeking Light in all this Darkness!

Feeling completely demoralized today! Took on a customer service job out of desperation and the thought of clocking into my shift this afternoon has me on the edge of a breakdown. A job is a job… I get that but dealing with annoying customers flipping out with complaints over silly issues for minimum wage pay is not something I can see myself doing any longer without losing my sanity. I didn’t go to college for this Sh%$!! Is there a silver lining to any of this? Feels like everyday I spend at that job moves me further away from a career doing what I Love. I apologize for going on over this but like I said before… I’m in a real dark space mentally of this any losing hope. Thanks for listening.

Katya, as you dress-Pray who you might reach out to do and help them in their desperation. Don't take their frustration publicly. "Smile, everybody you meet carries a heavy burden." Wake up each day saying "What can I do to help someone else today?" it really isn't hard

Many of us in the same boat. At least you have a job to go to right now. Put in your hours, go home at the end of the day, and don't think about that job until the next work day. Focus on what you want and keep driving towards that goal.

I'm in the exact same situation as you are. It is definitely a dark and frustrating place to be! All I can say, and I constantly say this to myself, is it will get better even though you do not see any signs right now! This experience has truly tested my patience and faith, that is for sure!

Hi, Katya. It seems to me you are looking at the big picture of this upcoming work shift as a whole and it is overwhelming you. One thing I've learned in dealing with things I feel are bigger than I, I break them down into bits I can deal with. Looking at the whole shift is simply too much, because you are worried about things that haven't happened yet. So take it steps at a time. Get dressed as though you care about this job, because while it's a minimum wage job it's your job and you are putting effort into it, so take pride in doing as best you can, and then have a wholesome lunch with protein before going in for your afternoon shift, and when you get there be civil to your coworkers because you are all in this together, and with each phone call concentrate on that one customer you are dealing with and work to resolve his or her issue, and move onto the next; just like when you took an exam in school and you concentrated on one question at a time and did not waste energy worrying about all the other questions. Try to think of customers on the phone as people like you because they are, and realize they are trying to resolve a difficulty and require your assistance, which you are there to give them. If you "take ownership" of this job it could wind up being a position worth listing on your resume because you further developed people skills with it. You can see Light in the Darkness if you could look upon this as being a gift. Good luck to you.

Hi Katya, I feel your frustration but do not get discourage. You are above this job – keep saying that to yourself. Think of temporary situation as a character builder – a challenge to yourself to fight your way through. As this forum knows, I am a VERY unreligious person but I do believe in a higher power - God if you like. And I believe that God has a higher plan for all of us. But God requires of us to believe in ourselves as well. Sometimes when things are going the wrong, it is easy for us to say, ”It will never get better” or “Why me?” . All these negative feelings weighs an individual down and basically become complacent in there current situation. Do not let that happen to you Katya. Be strong. Take that challenge head on and beat it. Ask your higher power to strength and courage to win the battle and then thank him for already sending it. You are not alone Katya. You are already on road to success!!! Take care.

Your not wasting your time there. The experience and paycheck are good means to keep you active and engaged in a routine. Turn the anxiety into more positive emotions that will help drive yourself out of that situation.

Katya - I've worked in that industry before so I know how frustrating that can get. Some days are better than others. Don't loose hope. Keep that job while you find something better.
