SIGH

I have an interview coming this Wednesday for a job. I am a 25 year old kid who is currently living with his parents. I have to tell you It is getting very frustrating living with them. Constantly asking me the same questions "what do you want to do with your life" "always stating that I am lazy or that I should be applying for a career instead of a job, your waisting your time, ect like they think I like staying home and not do anything with my life.

My parents just don't get that it is very hard find work for anybody today. And I've applied to over 50+ places. But they choose to ignore that. I've told them that my career will be in the AirForce but I have to

-lose 20 pounds to meet the physical requirements

-catch up on my math and science skills so that I may get a good job at the AirForce.

-have something recent on my resume to present to the AirForce.

Sigh. I don't know what I am going to do if I don't get this job. The interview will be using something called the STAR method.

Sorry for the rant.

Dealing with family pressure when your trying to get started and figure out a plan for your life is hard. I get it.. I really do but as I read your message I couldn’t help thinking of the alternative. Having parents that don’t give a damn what your do or when you do it. Parent who would never keep you in the house regardless if you have a job or not. Eduardo, it sounds like you parents care a great deal for you and they are concerned about your future. Yes, this is a different time. Making a life is 3 times harder than before so as caring parents they have every right to be concerned. If you think the solution is a job right now then good luck with your interview this week. I hope you get the job offer but, if not, then stay encouraged because this is a good time for job hunting as companies get ready for the holiday season. Follow your dreams but be mindful that your parents could be just looking out for your best interested in the only manner they now how. Be Patent.

I just may be the droid you are looking for.

Next time they ask you the "What are you..." question, answer it like this (jump to 1:12) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRwrg0db_zY

Your parents grew up in a different age and expectations and the economy were much different. They may be looking at you from that perspective. You can either take the time to sit down and educate them on what you have done already. (Mom and Dad probably are wondering why you're not "pounding the pavement" looking for a job, like they did). If a career in the USAF is your dream, you need to pursue it and that you need their support, too---not repeating "What are you going to do with your life?"

Edward, It is likely that your parents simply do not comprehend how incredibly "tight" the current job market is today; ;when they were out seeking employment; about all they had to do was complete a simple application and then wait to be told when they were to start. When my dad was alive; he'd always say there's no good reason for not being able to find a job. He had no clue about how incredibly tight the market has become. And; I would tell him, I've applied for more than one hundred jobs and I only heard back from two: and they both said: "Thanks but, no Thanks." The current job market and economy is unlike anything that they ever had to deal with: so of course they don't understand;.. Its something that they never, ever experienced. They never heard of someone with a college degree not being able to find employment: it just didn't happen in their day. Google The Star interview method so you can prepare for your interview. And, Hey: "Good Luck to you!!" Try and stay optimistic: we're on the bottom, there's nowhere to go but up!!

Good luck at your interview, Eduardo!!! I'm sorry your parents are not being supportive of your situation. It really is NOT easy to find a job. It take a lot of work and can sometimes take a lot of time. I think you have some great goals so you can join the Air Force and think you should definitely go for it!
