How can more value to the life skills I learned as a mom?
I’ve been out of work just over 10 years now since the birth of my youngest daughter 2005. Things are stable enough at home to allow me to return to the workforce but I’m honestly not sure where to begin. It seems like a lifetime of industry changes occurred during my time away from the office. It’s was just impossible for me to maintain any type of professional development raising a new family over the last decade and catching up at this point seems overwhelming. I’m doubting my ability to make it back to work and it’s affecting my self-confidence, attitude, and overall well being. I want to feel useful in society again. Open to your suggestions or comments. thanks

Hi Monica, Don't lose Hope! The way back into the workforce may seem like an overwhelming process but it's very doable once yo get started. Evaluate your career goals moving forward and make a list of possible jobs opportunities you'd like to consider. Conduct a basic job search for those positions in your area and carefully review the job description and qualifications necessary for those jobs. Pay attention to the technical skills required to make sure your familiar with the industry software and tools. Technical changes are usually the most common for each industry. Look for free or affordable online courses to catch up on those skills during your job search. Update your current resume onto your jobcase profile and ask other members for feedback. Hi Monica - I totally understand where you are coming from, my husband & I live in So. CA! Back some 14 yrs ago I developed Carpal Tunnel Syndrome from my job I was at working as a receptionist.....I had to leave because of the pain I was in, had surgery, and from there was off for 2 yrs! After the doctor released my back to the job force, I didn't have a job! Tried searching for another office job, but nothing was happening....I had more people ask me what I liked to do! I said I loved children as well as of course knowing the office work (which I still do)! So, I sent out my resumes and more often than not I had parents' coming back asking me to take care of their child and or children! To this day 14 yrs later I am a nanny, still trying to look for office work, but, the economy and job market has changed SO much! You can pretty much have too little or too much of the education, and also it has to do with age! With my husband he can no longer work, but, his last job was all by word of mouth and who you know that will help you get back. Reach out to people who you know, give out your contact info if you feel comfortable, I'm also on the www.caljobs.ca.gov website if you are in CA! Just a little tidbit for ya! :-)
