Drowning in an avalanche of applicants
Yes, I have had my resume professionally done. I hit the job sites every day and get my application in, even for jobs that I don't push all the requirement buttons on. And now I'm feeling really ground down when I see the sheer number of applicants for the jobs I'm applying for. One had 453 people apply, another had over 600. Over 600!! One interviewer told me that they received over 100 applications in one day. Is it all just luck? How can you stand out in that kind of tsunami? My late husband used to tell me it's who you know and who you blow and I'm seriously thinking he was right. I was laid off after 24 years of giving my blood, sweat and tears to a job where I was always told I was family. And I was good at it. I guess even family doesn't matter when it means saving a buck on payroll (not that my salary was anywhere what you'd call lavish). I've worked my contacts (I think they hide when they see me coming now) with zero effect and with ageism being alive and well, regardless of the illegality, I'm really bouncing off that rock bottom. No, I don't expect answers, this was more just along the lines of frustrated venting, but I sure would like to be one of the lucky few that actually make their way through the flood and get hired ::sigh::

I guess I will not start tiring to find a job at this time! It sounds like it is a war out there! I think the best thing I could do at this time, is pray! Pray that everyone on this site gets hired at a job that is just right for what they need! So GOD if you are here please show these people the way to their special job that they need! In Jesus Name, Amen! Jan Johnson

Terri, I am sorry to hear about the frustration you are experiencing with your job search. I will give you some tips:
- Start with positive affirmations at the beginning of the day. Pray
- Research the company you would like to apply.
- Decrease your years of experience in your resume to 7-10 years. It will lower your salary but you will get inside the door.( over 10 years recruiter are not even looking at your resume)
- Get your resume on 1 page, easy to read and won’t be discriminated (ageism).
- Apply to jobs on indeed-East apply.
- At the interview, wear some updated clothing and wear your smile.
All is going to be well.

Hi Terri, sorry to hear you got laid off. Its definitely tough knowing when you apply you're one of 600. One thing that I've found can help is if you can get the contact information of someone at the company you're applying to and reaching out to them then that can really get you to stand out. Don't give up hope though, there's lots of jobs out there.
I hear you! Never thought I’d see or hear the day that I would be discriminated against for age but that time has come. We need to all start playing a lottery pool and try to hit! But more so we need to start starting our own businesses! I am in the fight with you my friend!
