I lost my brother to war

Like you, I do a cookout on Memorial Day with my family because Monday holidays off are the best, but it also kills me that my brother won’t be there. He was so young, just 19 when he served in Iraq. He didn’t make it home. Just like that life changed. Let’s all stop and think about our veterans this Monday because life really is precious. Any vets here on this site?? Thank you for your service, you are the real heroes.

Thank you for sharing your story and the message for veterans. I have been to Bosnia, Kuwait, Iraq. Afghanistan, Korea, Japan, Dubai, Kenya, Johannesburg, Uganda, Hungary, Croatia and Switzerland. Just to mention a few places but well worth it for your freedom.

Wow! I am job hunting. I couldn't help but feel sorry for your family and the tragic lost of your little bro my man. I am a veteran of 8 years of service. I joined in January of 1986 til November of 1994. Right out of high school. I never got sent to Iraq as a Unit Supply Sargent. And i thank the good lord for it everyday. Your little bro is my hero. Cause he died for his country. And he chose Nationalism over materialism. I'm so sorry for your loss. Have a wonderful memorial in his name. We will never forget him. Much love & life to you all. Charles H

Wow, thank you Donald. My husband also served in the military and Memorial Day is hard for him especially because of the experiences he went through losing some of his brothers while serving. I know he feels a lot of guilt and sadness over those he lost and I will be forever grateful to everyone he served with for returning him home to me, especially those who didn't make it home themselves. This year we might go for a drive up the coast and spend the day reflecting and talking about the friends he lost. That's how we'll keep their memory alive.

Loss is hard man but you get through it. Try to tell some good stories about him on Monday, the kind that make you laugh. He is never really gone.

Sorry you lost your brother that's tough. I lost a cousin actually but this was many years ago. We will visit his grave this weekend and leave a flag and some flowers like we do every year.
