How can I turn a seasonal job into a full-time career?
Just got hired for a seasonal retail job which I really like but unsure of how to approach management about a full time position.

Mrs. Newman: Finding a job that you like is a real privilege and often takes time. I am sure that if you really enjoy what you do, your performance is outstanding. There isn’t a greater feeling and reward than stepping into a place of work that you really enjoy, that state of mind remains with you from the moment you get up to the time you retire in the day and is contagious towards the rest of the team players that work with you. I am sure that your manager is observing your performance. Sometimes companies offer seasonal jobs with a prospect of a full time position. You may address your manager before the job gets close to the end and express your desire to remain in the company, she will be able to tell you if there are any open possibilities of lengthening your contract or other job positions available. In between take a step to find avenues to improve your performance, offer suggestions for improvement, be available for additional projects, be proactive. If you see that something needs to be done act on it. A great input from your coworkers an as well a good customer service review will help you. If you deal daily with customers, sometimes there are situations when you are praised about your performance, request politely to give you a nice review to give to your Manager and add it to your file. Keep a professional appearance and continue doing your best. All the best for 2016!

Ask him/her if you can have a meeting, to discuss long term employment.

Show up on time and ready to work, expand your knowledge and show more than just one dimension, take on extra responsibilities, and have a good attitude.

Congrats on the new job Sarah. I agree with Kelly's comment. Be flexible, show enthusiasm, and cover as many hours offered seasonal employees are expected to learn fast and cover shifts. Wait a few weeks then begin approaching your boss about permanent employment.

Hi Sarah, I would work your hardest and put in extra hours if you can to show your manager just how dedicated you are. Hard work always pays off and it will definitely give you a leg up when trying to secure a full time position!
Work your way to the top and even do a little schooling if necessary.
