Leaving Good Managers
I’ve been working at Home Depot since Feb this year but today I got a call for a salaried job opportunity, I applied to earlier in the year, that’s more aligned with my career. The only wrinkle is that I have to start training for the new job immediately. I really have no complaints with my home depot job. The managers have been really good training and supporting me since I started working there. Now I have to tell them I’m moving on and can’t finish out the week. I really have no experience with this kind of thing so I decided to ask: How can I communicate this info to my very cool Home Depot manager without burning any bridges?

Hi John,
Just explain your situation to your manager at Home Depot, and I am sure they will understand... They get people coming and going from there all the time, so just tell him what you said on your post here, and hopefully you leave on good terms. If you had a really good relationship with your manager, you might want to see if you can use him as a reference in the future. Good luck with your career..

Tell him it's more money better opportunity and you need look out for your family best interest you enjoy working for homedepot and hopefully I could come back if doesn't work out

As Valerie said, say what you said there. Thank them for the opportunity and tell the manager you really enjoyed working with him/her, but a position that is more in line with your career aspirations has come available and you regretfully must leave soon to get that once in a lifetime opportunity.

Just go in and in yo break pull him to the side n tell him that u have to move m tell him you are sorry and that u thank him for the help

Say exactly what you just said here. The truth is always obvious, anyway. Thank the man for being a good boss.

Hello John, I'm sorry to hear that, but I'm glad to hear that you have a great new career to advance in. As a employee for Home Depot and having a great relationship with your management team. I would suggest that explaining your future goals with your current manager. I think that being honest with him in advance will not only give them time to replace you're position. But also keep from burning bridges with a previous employer.

Honesty is always the best policy. It has been my experience that, explaining your needs/wants to your current employer and outlining how your potential new employer can help you fulfill those needs/wants will paint a clear picture and open a opportunity for discussion and compromise.

Just be humble, honest and sincere. You will be fine and they will understand. They are losing a good person..but you must move on to your calling.
Depending on the location of the Home Depot job, you could tell them you have for them a well knowledgable applicant to take your place. They can see where I have recently put in an application with them only a week ago; they can email me at :(tonybeasley3691@gmail.com) I have worked for lowes and owned my own business and have over 20 years experience in construction and customer service in retail sales. Good luck in your new job.
