Gaps in your work history? Not a problem!
At some point life happens, whether you lose your job, laid off or terminated. After a year of searching, I went another route on getting job. I decided to try temp agencies and I must say it help my resume.

Hi I really have ahuge gap in my work history mainly because sometimes life just throws you lemons,
- I got really sick and could not function
- I migrated to the states and my references died It just seems hard for me right now but I am still trying.

Thank you Aaron. That is a great idea. I was at the same job for 32 years and had no clue on how to find a new job. I will look into temp agencies.

I am beautician last 30years. I am successful in my field. spl facial, waxing,Bleach, body massage, body spa, makeups. I need job and visa litter. So if you help me thanks for regarding. Gurvinder kaur

I am using this advice and has gotten me skills and experience is a new field. The only question I have is the length of my resume. Since some of these positions are only for a few months.

Yes, I do have gaps in my history. They are all explainable except this last one. Almost ready to go back to work.

Great encouragement Aaron! I wholeheartedly agree. I was laid off from GE Capital last June in the banking/finance industry... and was searching for 6mos to no avail. Just when unemployment ran out, a contracting/temp Co was able to find me a 6mo contract working at BMO Financial Group. This is my 1st contract role... and the experience has been great. First off, it pays MORE than my salary at GE... and it's allowed me to network at BMO, giving me an advantage for when I apply for a perm role with the organization since I've alrdy had face-to-face contact with mgmt & my work as a contractor alrdy establishes my work ethic. Being out of work & not getting responses from job submissions can take a toll on you. But my temp job now has been nothing but a positive experience!

Life happens - sometimes at what seems to be the worst possible time in your life. If you want the position and are qualified you should be interviewed. It doesn't always happen but keep the faith. Persistence, drive, and determination prevails. Follow your dreams !

Life happens - sometimes at the worst possible time. If your are qualified for the position you should be given an interview regardless of any gaps. If not move on and keep your head up. There is nothing that can stop you from achieving your goal!

Gap in Work History
Gaps in work history mainly effect you, in determining your attitude toward working environment. What ever the reason, putting a notation on resume ( I suggest towards the end) may help if the reviewer gets that far in reading it. (I am assuming that would be the actual person who does the interview). Temp work does fill gaps and give experience but make sure you note job as a temp position. I say this because with all the computer pre-screening being done prior even meeting a live person, one has to be careful with all wording on resumes. Same goes for big gaps, which actually put you into the inexperienced level but today's standards even if you were keeping yourself current with job skills. Find a way to make these gaps not stand out negatively with insync wording.
