Administrative Support Assistant at California State University Fullerton

Looking for Copy Writer positions

I am currently working as an Administrative Support Assistant within the university sector, and am trying to break into the writing industry. My current position is a temporary contract and is anticipated to end in August. Anyone have any suggestions on how to break into Copy Writer positions? I am also open to Advertising, Marketing, or other Admin type positions in any sector.

Hi Grace:

I can definitely help you here! I'm a copywriter, and I've done both freelance and full-time work.

The best thing to do to break into the industry is to build your own portfolio of writing. It doesn't matter if you don't have a project; start writing articles, web content, and any other copy you like. Reach a few books on copywriting, and teach yourself the difference between traditional and online copywriting (it makes a huge difference!)

Make your portfolio available online - buy your own website (most services are pretty cheap these days). Direct potential employers and clients back to your portfolio as an example of your writing.

Above all, don't give up!
