How volunteering at #Kennebunk,K'port,MeLittleleague,K&KYouthFootball,Wells,MePeeWeeandYouthFootball,(Coaching),Kennebunk,MeSecretSantaprogram,ToysforTots,Kennebunk,MeFoodPantry. changed me
In several ways, mainly to realize that people are different and need to be taught differently. Some children came from dysfunctional family backgrounds and had little self esteem. These kids needed different approaches to both succeed and improve the self esteem and believe in themselves, and be proud to be a part of something good. Some came to us very spoiled and self centered. These kids were some of the hardest to reach and to teach them to work with others so all team members could succeed. We also had disabled Kids, autistic kids, crippled kids, one who was legally blind. These kids were never chosen by any teams because of these situations, So they wound up playing for my teams. We, as a team, had varying successes, but improved every year from where we started. The thing that I'm most happy about for my kids is that they learned that winning wasn't everything, and that being a good person made good things happen. This was before " Participation Trophies". I still hear from some of my kids today, and I'm proud of the people they've become, in spite of me.
Awww that's amazing!!! Working with kids is so rewarding Peter J. Cannell
