I am on the same boat as all employed individuals with higher strengths than the job they are doing. I am finding in my 16 years of customer service and management related fields. That employers over look this experience for on document called a degree. All of my history in hiring theses so called degree holders you have to train them on everything that the job demands regardless of degree it still takes the same amount of time to develop a collage graduate than an experienced individual that has worked up the corporate ladder. My issue still remains, collage graduates have no applied experience how is it that I have proven abilities in work and life that any one that can read a book write a paper for four years straight walk into a job having no idea how the working environment works but is welcomed with open arms?
I’m dealing with the same problem trying to find a new job. I’m experienced in all things warehouse from unpacking, sorting, order picking, forklift, and OSHA compliance literate but I can’t even find a part time sorting job with FedEx. Even FedEx and UPS prefer college students for those sorting jobs. It’s an employers market out there right now so companies have the luxury to pick and choose what they deem to be the best job applicants to fill their jobs. Some companies want more education and others want more experience. I have a couple of recent college grads in my family who are also having a hard time trying to find right now. It’s crazy.
