Self empowerment?

I'm currently 19 years old, and I have no interest in attending college as I want to work as either a free lance artist or self employed. My mother is entirely against me doing so (understandably).

I wouldn't go to school if you are savvy enough to freelance. There are plentu of other options out there and most artists are hired iff ability, not education. Be warned though, there may come a time where you want a job that requires a major in art. That will be your biggest obstacle.

I would go to a school you love FOR what you love. If you love art, why not learn more? I went to school for photography and teaching. I taught for awhile and I still shoot weddings. I had as Sasha said a "back up" and school also taught me a lot about art, life and myself. It's an experience your mother doesn't want you to miss out on. I would be so happy to be able to go full time to art school, but now I take classes and even that makes me happy. We can always improve our art right? If in the future you find a company you want to start or open a studio you will have the education to support it if need be. You don't necessarily HAVE to go to school, but why not go and try it for a year or a semester? You might really love it. Good luck!!

Sit down and talk utilizing effective communication skills meaning no arguing, nor profanity and come to a census( mutual agreement)! Even if u landscape, u have to get a business license if u plan this to be your own business. Y not go a step further to get certified in landscaping or something that will assist your skills? It wouldn't hurt buy only help.blessings

Is there some reason you don't want to study art in college? You can learn a lot, trust me. I got my BA in English but I studied Fine Arts side by side with my English major. I worked mostly in three dimensional media but eventually I studied watercolor and freelanced as a painter for a number of years. Being able to study different techniques and having access to so much in the art department at school really enriches your breadth as an artist.
