Dont know how to tk this

I currently worked for a company for 25 years. I recently started taking care of a loved one, they knew my situation with this loved one . Don't get me wrong not looking for pity or being a favorite I wasn't given any info about any leaves I may take nor ever given praise for my work only about my faults. I was given a verbal because I had called mire than 5 days in a year which is company policy. I was told after that I would get a write up then the next would be termination. Your thoughts!!

Sounds like WalMart! How about like me. I go on personal leave-supposed to be unpaid, was no biggy. I go on leave in April, I go to use my discount card in September and it was denied. I called the next day to find out why and they said I was TERMINATED ON PERSONAL LEAVE.

The FMLA law is meant for people like you. If they have not given you that option or should you be fired, you are entitled to go to court. Your HR dept is responsible for giving you this information. If you want to keep your job, then I would suggest you go to your HR and tell them you must have lost your FMLA paperwork. It's better to back down and give them a chance to get it right. If you don't, and want to remain there, it won't be for long. Companies don't know what to do with employees that know they were in the wrong. Unfortunately, firing is all too common an answer for that. It may be hard to do but in the long run, if you plead ignorance they are much kinder. I'm not saying that it makes any of this right by any chance. It's not, but sometimes you have to learn how to play company politics and the faster you learn how to do that, the better off you are. I wish I had a better answer. The truth is what you need right now. Good luck.

Corporate America, Corporations, are not designed with family in mind for the most part! I'm sorry that you had to go thru this. Sometimes too it may be the manager running the store where you are!

Your store should have posters on FMLA posted somewhere. Every store that I have worked at has them somewhere. But your manager should have asked you if you needed to take a leave of absence. Anytime you are out for multiple days in a row ( can't remember exact #) you have to fill out LOA papers.

You now have a choice, get a copy of the company handbook of their policies and procedures or start going to job fairs AND post your resume to find new job.Always find out companies policy and procedures so you know what is acceptable. The FMLA could have been used to excuse you with proper written notice.

I would agree about talking to your human resources department and finding out hour options. There should also be information listed in the employee handbook. Generally, if you take a leave they have to give you an equivalent position and include the same pay rate when you go back to work.

Definitely look into FMLA and/or Intermittent FMLA. There's some paperwork involved but it protects you and your job when you have to take time off to care for your loved one.
