Getting discouraged
I am an RN with over 25 yrs experience. For the past 15 yrs I have done insurance medical review or Medicare. Since I lost my job in May of this year it has been difficult finding work. I'm not qualified to return to hospital floor work since I've been out of the patient care setting for so many years, that I would need to take refresher courses in order to be hired. Financially I can't even afford to enroll in any classes because I'm already on a very tight budget . I've had phone interviews ,but no call backs. AT 57 yrs old, it appears I am simply not hirable. Getting very discouraged. Anybody have any suggestions? My unemployment benefits are running out soon.

Hi Deborah, FYI, there's a career fair happening in your area this week. Might be a good opportunity to meet face to face with recruiters and discuss employment opportunities. Here's the info, https://www.nationalcareerfairs.com/career-fairs/pittsburgh-career-fairs/

You might also want to consider jobs that are adjacent to RN work such as companies that develop electronic medical records. They are always looking for people with clinical workflow experience to help implement their software.
Look up EMR/EHR analyst jobs. I am not sure how comfortable you are with computer software, but that could be a good segue into a new career field that uses your established experience.
