Advice needed
I was called out of the blue by a representative of a company and told that I was recommended to them by someone I had dealings with in my last job. I spoke to him, then the HR VP, VP of Field Ops, then CFO. All went very well. An HR Generalist called me last Friday saying a decision would be made this week. It's now Friday. Should I email or call them? And who? The VP of HR or the Generalist? OR should I just continue to wait?

I would contact them and ask questions
I would email or call everyone you have had contact with. It is also why it is important to track names. Doing this also lets them know you are seriously pursuing this position. Best of luck Dale

Dale, It is now Monday and I assume you heard from them one way or another? A followup is not being a nuisance unless you call repeatedly. I would call the HR and remind them you were going to hear from them on Friday and you would like to know. Seems this is very common amongst job seekers, the WAIT. Decide what is a reasonable amount of time, and call, or move on with something else.
Contact HR for a status report, don't wait. These execs have no conception of dangling people. I do believe in Karma. If you don't get a favorable response, move along
