Full time merchandising position

Being offered full time merchandising position with Advantage Solution. Concern is interview with three people received three different responses about territory being covered and monthly mileage expected to be covered. Responses very varied. Hiring manager refused to up starting pay for a high mileage position even though talent recruiter, who works directly for company, said he would put in for higher pay because position qualifies for it. Last conversation was referred to company policy for more information on expected mileage to be covered and mileage/auto reimbursement, can't access this info since only available to employees. I feel like hiring manager and direct supervisor being vague and giving me the run around - any feed back would be helpful.

I just went through this myself with a recruiter. They would NOT put anything in writing about the position. He kept making it sound like they were going to pay more and more but all the e-mails I sent came back with "CALL ME". I finally sent him an e-mail saying that until he put something in writing I was not going to accept the offer that he had told me about verbally. Then his tone changed and he started calling and leaving a message saying "please, I implore you to call me". In the end I said no because he would not put it in writing and from what I understand the company has put the position on hold. He was the President of the headhunter company so there could be no excuse as to "our company policy forbids us from putting it in writing" or anything else. If he cannot make a decision then he can go without the commission. Headhunters feel like they are the ones with all the balls in their court. Well, in his case he was wrong. I have been told by the company that they are keeping me in mind for when the position opens again if I am still interested. Basically all he has done is do himself out of a commission!

If they cannot put the area you are responsible for in writing then they are trying to find somebody who they can work to death and then tell them that they did not live up to expectations. Sounds like a good job to bail on.

If it helps, mileage reimbursement should follow IRS guidelines. I'm not sure of the current rate but it was roughly 0.58 per mile. If the company doesn't pay that, then the difference can be used when completing your tax return. Just be sure to keep an up to date mileage log for every road trip.

I would see if you can get an offer letter from someone which states your starting hourly wage and amount per mile. They can put in the letter that the amount per mileage varies but as of the date of your offer letter the amount is $.xx. That way it's in writing and the hiring manager and you both sign it. Then no one is confused and you know what to expect. Good luck!!

That sounds like a very frustrating situation Lu-Ann! I'm sorry you are going through this. I might suggest asking them a direct question about how much mileage is covered for the position so you are being properly compensated. Please keep us updated on how everything goes!
