Ageism
30 years accounting.. 2 years countless interviews. After in-person interview, no call. Makes me sad.

People are People: Discrimination is a self-protective instinct in all humans based on sensory inputs, Visual (Body Language, Appearance and Written communications), Auditory (Annunciation and wording used ), and Smell. These are the main inputs we do to other people. If that creates a Negativ of defensive impulse in another person that is dictated by their experiences and the understanding of those experiences. It is an Individual thing mostly. I don't know of any company that has it written in their policy to discriminate (I live in California). There is NO systemic Discrimination, Racial or by Age at a Systemic level. Systemic means have written and taught as Policy except in the fashion and entertainment industries. It is completely how we raise our children and how we treat each other. But, Back in early 1980 Working for KAHR Bearing the V.P. told HR to no-hire pretty women, because pretty woman is a distraction for workers and slow up production, he was sued over it and had to hire a few women who then turned out to be the worst people you could ever work with. His rationale and reasoning were correct but his action was wrong.

I have been going through the same thing for the past 3 years. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. I was a stay home mom for 13 years though while I was married. Now it’s been a struggle to get back into the work field. Thinking about going back to school though. I send out a dozen resumes a week and go on a few interviews here and there but nothing. Sucks

Please don't be sad! I worked with children since 99' 01' and getting back out there during this time is hard and you brought home way more than me so I think you had more responsibility than me. I don't have any kids because I was scared of unforeseen circumstances and didn't want to cry like I seen my mom cry after my dad died. I got a job with FedEx but my I'd expired but because of the COVID I have to wait hella long because of reservations!!🤦🏽♀️

I'm going through the same thing. It's very frustrating.

I just checked on Craigs List in my area -- Central NJ. There are a number of requests for part-time accountants.

Rea, suggest setting your own accounting practice for smallish firms.

I moved to the Nashville, TN area two years ago to look for employment. I have had six interviews for science-related positions but no offers. I interviewed twice with the State of Tennessee and then the online employment system was altered to make it more difficult to apply. My employment history and resume were eliminated. It is very discouraging. The pandemic has made the situation worse. I am considering relocating. All of the interviews went well except one.

Pushing 50. I feel this pain. we should have A UBI for all Americans. So we can at least afford a minimum existence with dignity. I did 20 years mil and worked since I was 13, isn't that enough?

So true. They request you put in your birth year and then make the determination whether to hire you or not. They should only ask if you are over 18 or 21.
I suffer with the same problem. I'm over qualified for most of the positions I apply for and don't get a good amount of them because of how young I look. For clarification, I cannot buy tobacco or alcohol without an ID and often get mistaken for a high school student
