How are you supposed to get a job if you have a criminal background.even been turned down at fast food.

Brian, are you a veteran? If so, they will guide you to those organizations and companies who actually do not have that level of discrimination. Also there are the outreach programs within your community who post listings of the same companies.
Do not get discouraged as these places fill up fast because we are a nation of criminals. Seek cities where the paroled population is lower than you reside currently.
And get into college, even online as I did for 5 years. That increases your value a hundred fold.
And lastly...and I have rejected this for myself already 4 times as the offers came...consider another country where they do not discriminate so severely, our previous lives.
