
Physiatrist - Pain Management
Who is skilled in the management of chronic pain with experience using a multidisciplinary approach, and who has 24 months of experience after receipt of Board Certification within 5 years. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 0730-1630 with a maximum of 200 overtime hours as needed. Job Duties: The Physiatrist shall perform specific tasks and duties that include but are not limited to the following: Provide physiotherapy for physical, mental, and occupational rehabilitation of patients. Examine patients, utilizing electro diagnosis and other diagnostic procedures to determine need for and extent of therapy. Assess the patient’s pain by examining the location, intensity, and duration of the pain. Prescribe medications and administers treatment, using therapeutic methods and procedures, such as light therapy, diathermy, hydrotherapy, iontophoresis, and cryotherapy. Prescribe exercises designed to develop functions of specific anatomical parts or specific muscle groups. Recommend occupational therapy activities for patients with extended convalescent periods and for those whose disability requires change of occupation. Document exam results, treatment plans and expected outcomes. Develops short and long term plans for patient to reach their goals. Monitor the pain management effects including medications given and spinal injections. Perform the full range of pain management procedures. These are to include cervical, thoracic and lumbar spinal injections. The Physiatrist Pain Physician should also be experienced with disc access procedures, vertebral augmentation, novel minimally invasive surgical procedures, the trial, implantation and maintenance of implantable pain therapies, to include spinal cord stimulators and intrathecal drug delivery devices. Performs both administrative and logistical tasks as a member of the healthcare team by contributing to maintaining the environment and resources necessary to deliver healthcare. Performs other duties as required by the Facility. Perform all procedures and duties that are normal to the scope of an Physiatrist. Have sufficient skills, knowledge and experience to perform the specific tasks for their specialty. Have knowledge of medical privacy and confidentiality (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act [HIPAA]. Physiatrist shall use the various clinical automation systems as required, such as, but not limited to Composite Health Care System (CHCS), Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA), Ambulatory Data System (ADS), and Defense Medical Human Resource System – internet (DMHRSi).
Doctorate degree from an accredited college approved by the Council in Medical Education and Hospitals of the American Medical Association or Doctor of Osteopathy from a college accredited by the American Osteopathic Association. Have and maintain a valid unrestricted current medical license in one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands and be able to obtain clinical privileges to practice medicine with the applicable Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) Credentials Committee. The Physiatrist must be board-certified in Physiatry and a Pain Medicine fellowship is highly desirable. Must have sufficient experience in chronic pain management to allow independent performance of pain management procedures. The Physiatrist must obtain their Pain Management Certification within a period of 12 months or a replacement candidate shall be provided with no lapse in coverage. Have and maintain a current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration number (certificate). License must correspond to DEA registration number. Graduates of foreign medical schools are required to possess both a medical license and other certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) or 5th Pathway. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), and advance cardiac life support (ACLS) certifications. Maintain these certifications in a current status at all times while performing services. Possess effective communication skills to verbalize treatment planning recommendations and function as an effective multidisciplinary team member in resolving inter-professional differences Possess sufficient initiative, interpersonal relationship skills and social sensitivity such that he/she can relate constructively to a variety of patients/family members from diverse backgrounds. Broad knowledge of computers and related software to include word processing, spreadsheet, data base management, statistical applications and intranet and internet connection and applications. Be able to read, write, and speak English well enough and enunciate with sufficient clarity to effectively communicate with patients and other health care providers. Working knowledge of computer applications/software to include Microsoft Office programs, MS Outlook (e-mail), and internet familiarity is required.
