Do not give up....HIRED!

I am 60 years old, been out of the work force for 17 years. After sending out numerous resumes with no response I took a part time minimum wage job with our public library. I spent at least 2 hours every day sending out resumes. I am positive I sent out at the very least 150 with absolutely no response. I changed my resume around still no response. My husband kept saying do not worry there is a fit out there for you and it will be perfect. I applied for a job that sounded right up my alley, and lo and behold 25 days after sending in the resume I got the interview phone call. They received 223 resumes and had scheduled 17 interviews. I thought this is a waste of time but will be good practice so I went. The interview went very well, they said they would make their decision in a week. The next morning I got a call asking if I could come in at 12:30 to talk with the director, should not take more than 10 minutes. I went and sat down with the director and we talked for over an hour. I got the call yesterday morning I start on the 5th. I am very excited and just want you all to remember not to give up...the perfect fit is out there for you.

You deserve so much credit for making this happen, Patty! It can be demoralizing to look for a job for a long time, but this is another example of why it's so important to keep going. Congratulations. You did it.

Thank you so much. This gives me hope. I am 50 us old. I've been at a job for 10 years (I'm the same profession 20 years). I worked my way from $5 an hour to $20 an hour. On June 6th I had back surgery and was out on medical leave for 2 months (without pay). While I was out, my boss laid me off and said she no longer had a need for me. I have been unable to get unemployment because she lied and said I quit. I have literally put in almost 100 resumes. Every day, I spend so much time looking for work. The only response I have gotten is from a minimum wage call center. I am taking it because I am far behind on my bills. I have to beg to not get my utilities shut off. I don't qualify for help because I don't have kids under 18. Ive been so depressed. Your post gives me hope to keep going. Thank you.
