Foreigner in My Own Country

I don’t know how else to express what I want to say about this without sounding like a racist but I’ll try to deliver this message in the hope that the contributors on this platform will hear me out and not rush to judgement. I can’t find a job online or otherwise that I can apply for in or around my town that doesn’t have a Bilingual or Spanish speaking ONLY as a job requirement! Once upon a time I was a proud assembly worker for a big American manufacturing company. This was a job I held down for almost 25 years before they decided lay everyone off and ship out our jobs over to Asia and Central America. Now, I find myself competing for those very same jobs back home. I can’t even apply because, get this, I don’t speak the language!! What’s happening in this country, particularly in the South? The overwhelming influx of legal and illegal immigration into these small blue collar towns is destroying the social economic fabric and balance of temperament that took so long to establish within these communities. I’m pissed that I can’t find a way to make a living and support my family in my own country. I’m in my fifties so learning a new language isn’t a reality for me. What else am I and other people like myself suffering quietly in idle supposed to do to find work?

I feel your concern Mr. Gordon but that’s the workforce still willing to do those jobs in return for the ridiculously low wages. Big business demand for cheap labor workers is the driving force here.

I haven’t experienced that personally but I have heard of those same concerns from other people here and other sites like quora and reddit. The demographics of America are changing dramatically and we’re going to have to adapt. I’ve been abroad to Europe and Latin America and residents living in the major cities are all required to speak English to find good employment.
