Referrals Get Jobs!
Is it true companies give 1st priority to applications that are accompanied with an employee referral? Does it have to be in writing, verbal, or both? If I know someone who works for a wholesale company in another state and I’m applying for a local job opening with the same wholesale company should I write in my friends contact info as a reference on the application? Or does he have to call this store and verbally recommend me for the job? Does it even work if the employee works in another state? This is the first time I’m going to try this out and I still haven’t asked for the personal referral so I want to get understand how to do it right before I get started.

Hi Henry,
Depending on the company, they may have an internal referral program where the current employee can give you a link through which to apply. Additionally, most online applications ask if you know anyone currently working there. You can list your friend there as well. If your friend is comfortable vouching for your work ethic, they might even be willing to write a reference for you.
Have your friend check with their HR department to see how to go about referring applicants. A lot of companies offer referral bonuses for employees who refer someone who gets hired.

Written or verbal are good either way but a verbal referral is the best way to seal the deal.

Referrals and References are always good!.

"I don't know" I have heard of working for some short time and than transferring, relocating. but any whoo! If an employer can fit you in most likely;) that employee can put in a good word for you, an employer usually ask on their application, if you know anyone that works for that business but if they are friends or related to you and the employers application as states on some applications no relatives and no peers as a reference than no that person should not use them as a reference!
Create a paper to keep on file of there name where they work, email, number and how long have you known them. You need at least 3 but even more can help just in case they can't reach that person. You might want to send them a letter requesting to put there information as your reference sometimes people take it wrong that someone has there number and they don't know why.
