Have YOU ever been forced to go to work even when there was a natural disaster??!

Yes during a blizzard once OUTSIDE.

During a hurricane I tried to call out and they still made me come in,. I thought they were messing with me!

I have before many times.

Yes and I was scared to death! The roads were all flooded, wires down. It was a mess.

No, I lost my job because of COVID

is having a flu or these days covid . a natural disaster?

That is such a broad term, national disaster. Who determines what a national disaster is? If we get 2 inches of snow, you can call that a national disaster and not go to work. However, if you are the only one who didn’t make it to work, then it does not look good for you. You will have to say why you are the exception. With me, due to a disability I can not drive. So, weather may take out transit, so I can not get in. I tell my boss that in advance. Now with covid, different story. If you get covid the employment laws have rules they can not fire you. How ever in lower end jobs, like retail or restaurants they understand they can not go out hire someone and wait for you to get better, then you get better, and they fire the person they hired to replace you. It is tricky for the employer. Moral of the lesson is to look at both sides of the coin. Was the termination reasonable or was it vindictive? If 99% of your co-worker made it to work and you didn’t, then get proof on why you did not make it in.

I used to work for a restoration company and they wanted us to put subpumps in the crawl of a home that was directly in the path of a breached levy! The home literally split the water flow into two raging rivers! There was no way the pumps would keep up! Me and my assistant helped resident with sandbags and move belongings to the second floor had some coffee and smoked cigarettes with the people in the neighborhood we could have just left but instead we did what we could! What we didn’t do is set up equipment and have someone sign a contract like we were told! We where on-call and it was double overtime. We made up some lame excuse as to why we where there for four hours We were bad employees!

No one can force you to do anything. Do you want to get paid to sit at home
I live only 1 mile from where I used to work. I volunteered to come in when a lot of people called out because of bad weather.
