Project Management Career
Hello everyone. I really need some advice. I recently switched my career from accounting to Project Management. I just finished my first PM job - one year contract. I have been looking for a new assignment for about 3 months now with no real success. Transitional careers are difficult. Anyone with similar experience who would like to share a bit of their journey and give me some advice on how to proceed? Thanks much for your help. Lena
Hi Leena since you have chosen this line there are lots of projects in different streams for exp transport,Hospitality,health,education you have to judge how to encash them trust me rewards are big try to extract work from projects

I have been in the healthcare world for 13 yrs. My last "professional" job was a nighttime supervisor for the microbiology Dept at a hospital in Baltimore before moving to Albuquerque. I was fortunate to land a job there as an adjunct instructor for an allied health dept. I returned to Baltimore (home sweet home), and haven't had a professional job yet, except for working as an healthcare consultant for my wife's company. Being one step away from completing my doctorate, I've been asked intelligent questions such as, "Do you have a nursing degree?" or "Do you have a high school diploma?" My wife has worked for 22 years in the healthcare industry and hasn't been able to get a decent job for 2 yrs. It is a shame that the qualifier for getting a career (and not just a job) is whether or not you possess a HS or AA. Just remember that there are a lot of ignorant individuals out there - especially those in the hiring position. Stand your ground, DO NOT water down your resume, and keep pushing. You might also consider marketing yourself on LinkedIn, CareerBuilders, HighEdJobs. Good luck.

Focus on the objective of the project you managed. Was it completed on time or ahead of schedule? Did you bring it in at or under the projected cost estimate? Were you able to complete the project with the estimated number of workers, or did you find ways to reduce the number needed? Look for other areas like this that you can point to which will highlight your abilities as a PM. Also if any unexpected problems cropped up during the project, (they always will according to Murphy), identify them and how you resolved them.
