I think it definitely depends on how you use it. I have friends who use weed to medicate things like anxiety, depression, ADHD etc. and others who use it recreationally. I have one friend who used weed to get through alcoholism and quit drinking for good.

It definitely affects everyone differently, which is why it'd be hard to say whether someone would be able to be productive at work while on weed. Most of the people I know who use weed as medication, don't take very much at a time, most do not ingest by smoking and when they're on it they are more focused and productive and don't seem intoxicated. People I know who do it recreationally usually smoke it and try to ingest as much as possible so they can escape for a few hours.

I had a roommate who was so bored with his job that he'd bring his weed into work (a hospital, mind you) and vape a little bit before his shifts. I can tell you that there was definitely more going on with that guy, but I guess the question remains, if it helped him get through overnight shifts counting pills into bottles and he didn't make any mistakes (which if he had he probably would have been fired right away), was it wrong?

I think the answer is a little more complicated for me than a simple yes or no. I, myself, react poorly to the stuff, but I know a lot of people who swear by it as a medicine for a multitude of things while others just use it to get high. We still have a lot of refining to do about how we use and think about this product, and I think that employers should mirror that by investigating drug tests that test positive for weed. Employers can ask to see medical cards and get doctor's notes, similar to how we might treat other medications. As the use of weed becomes more commonplace, we'll have to re-evaluate some of these drug testing practices and attitudes about who can use weed when.

I'm curious to see what comes. As someone who doesn't partake, I don't really have much of a personal stake in the matter, but I know a lot of people who it has helped so I know it holds potential to do good things. I also know a lot of massive stoners who I think got way far into using weed and have been held back by it.
